The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a premier national pioneer network composed of over 55 member organizations fighting for gender equality across Ethiopia since 2003. This high-impact media and consultancy assignment is a critical strategic intervention focused on documenting the lived experiences of women affected by conflict and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The selected production firm or consultant will be tasked with capturing critical, survivor-centered narratives across complex, conflict-affected regions in both the Amhara and Tigray regional states to directly fuel national policy lobbying and international advocacy campaigns.

1. Background about NEWA
The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-partisan, non-governmental national network established in 2003, comprising over 55 member organizations working across Ethiopia to promote gender equality and women’s rights. NEWA plays a critical role in coordinating advocacy, strengthening institutional capacities, and amplifying the voices of women’s organizations. As part of its strategic focus, NEWA implements programs aimed at preventing and responding to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), particularly in conflict-affected and vulnerable settings.
With support from development partners, NEWA is implementing interventions to improve legal frameworks, service delivery systems, and accountability mechanisms for SGBV survivors. However, there remains a critical need to document lived experiences of women affected by conflict and SGBV to inform advocacy, policy influence, and program design.
2. Purpose & Scope of Work
The purpose of this assignment is to document and amplify the voices and experiences of women affected by conflict and SGBV, and to produce evidence-based advocacy materials (case stories and documentary) that support improved SGBV prevention and response services.
The Service provider will undertake the following tasks:
- Review relevant project documents and reports provided by NEWA.
- Develop a detailed inception report outlining the methodology, data collection tools, ethical considerations, work plan, and implementation timeline.
- Develop and document short case stories and scenarios highlighting SGBV in conflict-affected communities within the Tigray and Amhara regions.
- Conduct field data collection using ethical, survivor-centered, gender-sensitive, and trauma-informed approaches maintaining strict “do no harm” principles.
- Capture high-quality video footage (Full HD or 4K), interviews, ambient sound, and B-roll reflecting NEWA’s institutional role and contributions.
- Produce a professional 15–20 minute documentary film, including scripting, editing, narration, sound design, and accurate English subtitles.
- Produce a short 5–7 minute highlight version and social media advocacy clips.
3. Technical & Production Requirements
We expect the documentary production to meet professional standards, including:
- High-quality video recording (minimum Full HD 1080p resolution, 4K preferred).
- Clear and professional audio capture using external microphones.
- Proper lighting setup for interviews and indoor scenes.
- Structured storytelling, including interviews, voice-over, smooth transitions, and color correction.
- Submission of all final deliverables alongside all raw data and audio-visual files.
4. Required Qualifications & Logistics
- Skills Needed: Professional video production expertise, advanced script writing, time management, and consultancy field experience.
- Languages: English proficiency for reporting/subtitles is mandatory; understanding of local regional languages is highly encouraged.
- Logistics: Selected conflict-affected regions in Ethiopia. Flight, local transportation, per-diem, and accommodation costs are to be covered entirely by the service provider (film producer) within their financial proposal.
